Go to the shopContaining heaps of healthy flavonoids and antioxidants, it is low in tannins and calories, making it the perfect any time of day drink. This is why you need to perfect your brewing technique to enjoy all of its healthy benefits. Before you start brewing, you need to consider that Rooibos has sensitive storage requirements. Store the tea leaves in a dry, cool cupboard within an airtight container. This will keep the tea leaves fresh and prevent them from taking on surrounding aromas. Stale Rooibos tea is not pleasant tasting!
Follow this step-by-step recipe
Rooibos tastes purer if brewed in spring water or filtered water. The water should be allowed to reach a temperature of 212 F when heated.
Preheat the teapot by adding some hot water and swirling it around for a few seconds; discard the water. Place the teapot near the warm kettle to keep it cozy.
Add 4.26 grams (one heaped teaspoon) of tea leaves per eight ounces (one cup) of water using a measuring spoon. If you prefer stronger tea, adjust the measurement to suit your tastes. Strong Rooibos tea is equally delicious.
The longer the leaves steep, the greater the number of antioxidants and nutrients in the final brew. For excellent flavor and nutritious goodness, Rooibos tea should steep for a minimum of four to five minutes.
Once the tea has steeped, place a tea strainer over a glass mug and pour the tea. Enjoy Rooibos tea in its natural state, or add milk and sugar or honey for sweetness.
